Effective November 11, we are switching to curbside visits only. With the incredibly high rate of COVID infections, we are trying to do everything we can to keep our clients, staff and patients safe.
Beginning Monday, October 12th, we will be implementing our gradual re-opening process. We still strongly encourage curbside visits*, but for those patients who are scheduled for an exam (wellness or sick) one owner may choose to accompany their pet into the exam room following our new guidelines. When you arrive for your appointment, please call us (319-277-1883) from your car. Our lobby is still closed at this time. The new process is outlined below. Non-exam appointments (examples include nail trims, express anal glands, vaccinations, etc.), medication and food pick-up, as well as drop off and pick up for surgery and boarding appointments, will remain curbside only. The data will continue to be monitored so that decisions can be made to keep our staff and clients safe.
What will this process look like?
- Call on arrival, you will be checked in over the phone
- Wait in your car until we come out to get your pet. If you choose to accompany your pet in for their exam appointment, we will escort you directly into an exam room.
- Only one person is allowed in for exam appointments
- Masks that cover your mouth and nose are required to be worn at all times
- Use hand sanitizer upon entry into our building
- Once in the exam room, please stand on the marked spot on the floor
- Exam rooms will not have chairs in them
- Once the appointment is over, we will escort you back outside to wait for checkout
- Receptionist will call you once we have charges and medications ready to take payment over the phone
- We will bring the receipt and any medications out to you
- Curbside only:
- Non-exam appointments (nail trims, express anal glands, vaccinations, etc.)
- Medication pick up
- Food pick up
- Surgery drop off and pick up
- Boarding drop off and pick up
I am still uncomfortable coming inside for the appointment, can I still wait outside?
YES! We are continuing to strongly encourage curbside appointments where our doctor visits with you over the phone. Just let us know if you prefer curbside when we check you in.
I really miss seeing Margot and the receptionists, can I just come in quickly and say hi?
Margot is desperate to see her fans and we miss having the daily interaction with you. Unfortunately, we still need to keep our lobby free from people for now. We can’t wait until we can find a better “new normal” for all of us.
Can I wait inside?
No, our waiting area is still closed.
Do I have to wear a mask?
Yes, and the mask needs to be fully covering your nose and mouth during the entire visit. We are not able to keep a 6-foot distance between our staff and you during exams. Our staff and doctors will also be wearing a mask.
What if I don’t have a mask?
We will have masks available for purchase for $1, let us know that you need one when we check you in over the phone.
Can I bring someone with me (kids, spouse, friend)?
No, only 1 person per visit. However, you may utilize our curbside service if others need to come along to your appointment. Due to the size of our exam rooms, we need to limit the number of people in them.
Can I check out at the reception desk?
No, our lobby is closed. We will call you once we have the bill ready and you can pay over the phone.
I want to come in and buy some toys for my pet, can I do that?
At this time, our lobby is still closed. Our staff can bring some options out for you to view and purchase.
How long do you plan on doing things this way?
Unfortunately, we are still not sure how long these protocols will last. We need to continue to keep our staff safe and healthy, so that we are able to continue to provide all the care that your pet needs. We are being extra cautious since some parts of our job make it very difficult to social distance from each other. All of us are trying our hardest to stay healthy so that we are here when you need us.
How often do you clean your exam rooms?
We will be thoroughly disinfecting our exam rooms between each appointment.
What if I know that I have been around someone who tested positive for COVID-19?
We would first ask that you reschedule your appointment. If you have a sick pet that needs to be seen, then see if someone else can bring your pet in for you. As a last resort, you will need to utilize our curbside appointments and inform our receptionist to take extra precautions.
What health screening questions will I be asked?
-Have you had a fever, cough, or lethargy in the last 72 hours?
-Have you been around anyone that has tested positive to COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks?

*Curbside visits: We ask that everyone that comes to the clinic, please call our office at 319-277-1883 from your car when you arrive. We will send an employee out to bring your pet inside for their appointment, or bring your food/medication out to you. Our doctors will then do the exam over speaker phone with you.
