TAYLOR'S PET OF THE MONTH - JUNE 2020 - CALLIE

Callie was adopted from the Cedar Bend Humane Society about 8 years ago. She was a typical 3-year old beagle - always sniffing, curious about everything, and loved walks.

One of her most interesting talents was her ability to jump. One time, she even jumped through our son's open car window and was found sitting in the driver's seat! Over the years, Callie continued to sniff, love walks, and jump whenever she wanted to get to something.

In the past year, she seemed to be slowing down some, but we figured this was due to her age. In April of this year, Dr. Smith suggested we include the Senior Screen as part of her regular yearly check-up which we did. As part of this screen, an ultrasound was done on her abdomen and a mass was detected in her bladder. We were apprehensive to have the tumor removed because of her age and her slowing down already. Dr. Smith assured us that, although the surgery was pretty major, she would do well with the surgery regardless of the outcome of what the mass was. Two weeks later, the tumor was removed and Callie came home to recuperate. Within a week of the surgery, she was back to the dog we had a year ago. She is jumping on the couches and not happy that she cannot go for walks yet.

Due to the senior screen detecting the tumor, which was tested and determined to be cancer, and putting her on Dasuquin for some minor joint pain, Callie has more energy and is moving better and ready for long walks again. Thank you to Dr. Smith and his great staff!
