Foreign Body Precautions

Some things that we don’t think of as harmful for our pets can end up being quite serious. This is Dexter, an 8 year old Boston Terrier. His owners brought him in for decreased appetite and weight loss. He was not vomiting, but he was just not feeling “himself.”  X-rays were taken and showed something that shouldn’t be in there. It was decided that he should have exploratory surgery where the doctor found…. Dexter had been eating hair ties & head bands!!! Dogs and cats sometimes eat things that they are playing with, so it is very important to keep items like hair ties, rubber bands, string, paper clips, etc. safely away from your pets. Would anyone like to take a guess at how many hair ties/bands were found during surgery? (hint… none of the Taylor staff came close to guessing correctly) ;)
