Teaching Topic - Neutering

1. Neutering is the surgical procedure to remove the testicles.
2. This prevents the animal from breeding.
3. There are multiple behavioral benefits if pets are neutered at a young age - including prevention of urine marking and a decrease in dominance and roaming behaviors.
4. There are multiple medical benefits as well - including prevention of testicular cancers and infection, decrease in risk of prostate infection and cancer, and decreased chance of injuries secondary to roaming (hit by car, bite wounds from fighting, etc)
5. We recommend neutering between 5-6 months of age, but it can be done at any age.
