Pet of the Month - Thanksgiving 2015 - Shomari

Shomari, our 12 year old rottweiler came from the humane society.  His pound name was Butch!  Who knew that cute "outie" belly button was actually a hernia!  He came in with his sister, Laynee, went to her forever home with a friend and will not be forgotten.  Shomari was gently bossed by his brother Boutitt and they were our pride.  He is social with every person and every other animal and has impeccable manners. Dr. Jim Taylor and Dr. Chad Smith cared for them both for many years with love and lots of Jim's sketches on the white board!  Now Shomari and Dr. Smith are the best of buds.  Shomari has been an unofficial hospice dog to family and family pets and welcomed into hospices, hospitals and his grandma's nursing home.  It is clear Shomari's job on earth has been to make everyone feel special, even those who are not "pet people" - those weirdos!  .Grandma passed in September and Sho sho grows tired too but puts up a good front as Mom, Dad, Dr. Smith and his staff try to make him comfortable.  Not sure how he still looks so good on Mom's new rug when he is so close to leaving us. I have a history of amazing pets, who have helped me live a better life.  My first pet was a cat in the 1980's, Miss Kitty was diabetic and took insulin and I had to walk to Taylor Veterinary Hospital on State St. to get her there. Then Jabari, the yellow lab.  I hope one day I will take on another love. Shomari is amazing and I giggle inside when people meet him and say "oh gosh he really likes me"..lol....
