Pet of the Month - September 2014 - Danielsen Pets

Meet the Danielsen Family. This group is a lively bunch who have brought joy to the staff here as I’m sure many others as well. Here is what Jill and Doug had to say about their fuzzy family.

Junior is our yellow lab. He is about three years old and weighs close to 100 lbs. He is almost all muscle. He loves to run and play and is very fond of swimming. Junior will retrieve balls out of the lake over and over until he finally has to lie down and rest. Even though he is quite active he tolerates the three cats exceptionally well. He is very patient with them and will even wait for them to move if they block his food dish. Junior has a special bond with Doug and wants to be with him all the time, and he usually is.

Belle is a sweet kitty who is almost two years old. We rescued her from the Grinnell shelter. She is the smallest of the group weighing in at a whopping six pounds. It appears that she will always be our lightweight. She is quite playful and is the one to jump on the others or swat at their tails. She is also the most curious cat. She gets into the most unlikely and highest of places. Belle loves to be held and petted. Our grandchildren love to find her because she will let them give her all kinds of attention.

Pepper is our oldest cat. She is about seven years old. We got her through Waverly Pet Rescue. She used to be a little picky about being petted. Three times was her magic number then she would just walk away. Pepper had a health scare a few months ago. She had a case of meningitis which caused her to have a head tilt and loss of balance. During this time of need she became more friendly and allows for longer petting sessions. She is still recovering but is able to sit a little straighter and jump up on the couch. With the help of Dr. Taylor she is doing very well and is even back to playing with the other cats.

Jessie came from the Cedar Bend Humane Society, as you can see we adopt from many locations. She is the youngest and is approximately one year old. We think she will be our largest cat. She has really long legs and will eat as much as she can get her mouth on. She weighs as much as Pepper. I’m sure it’s hard for little Belle to compete with these two at the food dish. Jessie is an interesting mix of our other two cats. She has the same white areas as Pepper and the tiger stripes like Belle. She is very playful and frisky. You can find her wrestling with Belle almost daily.

We love our pets to pieces. It is great how well they all get along. -Jill and Doug
