Pet of the Month - April 2014 - Daisy

Daisy is a boxer mix puppy that is very glad to have a permanent home in Cedar Falls with her new mom and dad, Bill and Jane Hunter. You may have seen her story on the TV channel 7 news or read about her brothers and sister on the front page of the Courier newspaper on December 13th. Someone had disposed of an unwanted litter of 7 puppies by stuffing them all into a plastic storage container and left them on a street curb in downtown Mason City. The only helpful thing being a few breathing holes in the lid and a sign offering "free puppies". A good Samaritan saw the container on the curb and looked inside. He took the freezing, wet puppies to the local Humane Society and they of course saved them. It was near 0 degrees that night and they would have all frozen had they not been found and saved.

We had just lost our beautiful dog Lizzy to cancer and were left with a huge hole in our hearts. We had searched a few animal shelter websites and also had visited a couple of northeast Iowa shelters. When we saw the stories and pictures of the Mason City puppies we stirred to action and  called the North Iowa Humane Society to inquire about the smallest and cutest one. We were told the smallest one was a female and that we needed to fill out an application for "Daisy" on their website sponsored by the nice folks at Petfinder. A few days later we were on way to meet Daisy, she was everything we expected and we brought her home with us. She is a good little girl with a great personality. She is rambunctious and curious and loving. She is doing well with her puppy training and will travel with us in our motorhome just like the four generations of our dogs before her. Thanks to Dr. Chad Smith and all the nice caring people at Taylor Veterinary Hospital for taking care of our sweet Lizzy and now her successor, Daisy.                                                                 Bill and Jane Hunter
